The long-awaited Monday — the first day of renovation — finally arrived and “busy” can’t even begin to describe it. We have so far been on track with the first set of equipment and materials, including the scaffolding bought last week, ready at home before the day came.

The first thing in the morning, the workers already gave us a full laundry list and more of things to buy. The Action Woman and I spared no time and rolled into a hardware store to get the items. Because our village only allows delivery of construction equipment on Tuesdays and Fridays, we took the role of the “runner” to make sure things are moving along.

We arrived back on site with a vehicle full of the the items in the lists. Our car was turned into a delivery truck of sorts and we needed help unloading upon arrival.

Just a little over two hours since they entered the village, we were met with busybodies already clamping up the scaffolding, setting up ladders, and taping up areas we wanted protected from all the debris. Everyone was efficient, professional, and clean with their work.

My favorite installation was the protective plastic and newspapers used on the floors and the stairway. These are spaces that people will pass through when removing and installing toilets, sinks, cabinets. It was well-thought of and excellently executed.

For the upper floor, I like how they left the center open to not waste materials. It also tells me that they have already considered the spaces that they will walk through going in and out of the rooms.

Overall, I think we did alright with day 1 of the renovation. Yesterday (day 2) was even more hectic with The Action Woman running back to the hardware four times! My role was to again take orders for stuff needed the next day.
Today, the plan is to head back to GlobalHome to settle the toilet orders that we discussed with their great staff last Friday.
Do you think our Day 1 was a success? What was your experience with Day 1 of your own home renovation? I look forward to hearing about it!
